NIAGARA REGION WIND PROJECT

The Niagara Region Wind Project is a 230MW renewable energy project located in the Township of West Lincoln, Town of Lincoln, Wainfleet and Haldimand County. The energy produced by the 77 turbines will be sold to the Ontario Power Authority under the FIT 1.3 program.

Project Information: At Time of Engagement

The project will be owned by Daniels Power, Enercon Canada Inc and Borlex. An equity ownership of the project is being contemplated by Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation. NRWC began meeting with the Six Nations CAP team in 2011.

Project construction is scheduled to be completed by August 2016.

Proposed Community Benefits

  • 50% equity ownership for Six Nations which will generate not less than $30 million for the community over the next 20 years.

  • $20,000 per year for Six Nations post secondary education

  • A6N is bidding on subcontracting work (employment)

The project reached commercial operation in November 2016. It id capable of producing 230MW of wind power with 77 turbines. Niagara Regional Wind Farm (FWRN LP) is a partnership between Boralex Inc., and Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation (50% Ownership).
